LAYAN’S STORY
Layan, 11 years old, has been living with pain since her early childhood. Her story began when she was five years old, when her family noticed recurring swelling in her foot. The swelling would sometimes disappear, only to return in a more painful form. After a long series of medical tests and biopsies, it was discovered that Layan suffers from chronic bone inflammation, a condition that has significantly affected her foot, causing a visible deformity and difficulty walking.
Over time, the inflammation also led to shortening of her limbs. She began to drag her leg while walking and now uses a protective device for her foot to shield it from repeated injuries. Despite all of this, Layan continues to smile bravely and tries to live her childhood like any other child.
Currently, Layan continues to take medications to treat the inflammation in hope of eliminating it completely. After completing the medical treatment, she will need surgery to correct the deformity in her right foot caused by bone inflammation (tuberculosis). The surgery will involve bone reconstruction and grafting to help her walk normally again.
Layan’s story is one of silent pain and unending hope, a child who stands strong despite suffering and dreams of the day she will walk with steady steps, without fear or pain.
