CALL TO ACTION
Your help is needed to cover Jana’s cardiac catheterization surgery and save her life.
THE FAMILY HISTORY
Four months ago, 5-year-old Jana suffered a rare form of stroke of the cerebral vein known as cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT). This, in turn, led to a build-up of fluid deep within the brain and resulted in a mild degree of hydrocephalus that has not affected her development.
Currently, Jana needs a therapeutic cardiac catheterization urgently in order to close the opening between the atria, where a plug will be used during the surgery to close the hole. Failure to close the atrial orifice increases the risk of brain clots on the child’s life if they occur, God forbid. The operation is considered a low-risk procedure with a high success rate.
Jana lives with her parents and three-year-old brother in a rented apartment in Jabal al Hussein. Her father works as an employee in a restaurant where he earns a monthly salary of JOD 350 - 400. Meanwhile, her mother used to work from home preparing and selling Kuba (meat balls) yet stopped to look after her own health. Jana’s father underwent bone grafting surgery to repair his damaged ankle bone in 2020 and her mother suffers from a platelet disorder and both parents must take medications on a regular basis. The cost of the father’s grafting surgery and Jana’s brain catheterization has buried the family in debt.
