MATHAYEL’S STORY
Mathayel, 52, is a strong, capable, and hardworking woman, living in the Governorate of Tafilah. Believing in the power of education to provide her children with the best chances in life, she has managed to see two of her older children through university, while her two younger ones are currently completing their university studies.
Since securing the university funds is Mathayel’s top priority, she finds that she cannot afford to purchase a gas stove for her house to replace the old one that is no longer fit for purpose. She is also unable to provide other necessities that the house desperately needs.
Mathayel lives in modest dwellings that are too cramped for a family of five. It consists of a small reception room to receive guests, one bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom. An exterior room was built to serve as a place to receive guests. However, due to financial constraints, Mathayel requires assistance completing its interior work which entails plastering the walls, tiling, painting, and door and window installation. Mathayel lacks the resources to continue this work as her monthly income falls short of covering the costs of the internal work alongside meeting the family’s basic monthly needs.
