LAMIA’S STORY

Lamia, 31, was married at a very young. Widowed by 26, she’s been left to care for her two children alone and to take on significant responsibilities she hadn’t expected to shoulder so soon.

Lamia lives in one of the villages in the Irbid Governorate, in a house measuring no more than 100 square meters. Her home is in a bad state, with rainwater dripping from the ceiling, creating significant issues with moisture, leading to mold growth and damage to the very modest furniture. Moreover, these conditions pose serious health risks for her and her family.

Lamia receives just enough from her deceased husband’s salary to cover her monthly expenses, including electricity and water bills, rent, food and beverages, and other costs for her children. As a result, she cannot make any repairs to the house where she lives. It has been agreed with the landlord that the cost of repairs will be deducted from her monthly salary at a rate of 100%, meaning that Lamia will effectively have her rent covered for a year and nine months.
