YOUSEF’S STORY:
Yousef, a 6-year-old and the youngest of his siblings, has faced significant health challenges. His father works as a daily-wage laborer in the field of optics. At the age of two, Yousef contracted the respiratory syncytial virus, which left him with symptoms of lethargy, loss of appetite, and a persistent cough. During medical tests to treat the virus, it was discovered that Yousef also has type 1 diabetes, requiring daily insulin injections before meals to manage his condition.
Unfortunately, the challenges didn’t stop there. As a result of his diabetes, Yousef was also diagnosed with celiac disease. His doctor has recommended an endoscopy of the stomach, duodenum, and intestines to assess the severity of his gluten intolerance and to determine if there has been any intestinal damage. This procedure is crucial for developing an appropriate dietary plan to manage his condition effectively.
