Case description

AMOUNT NEEDED – JOD 720

Mona is 14 years old, while her younger sister Raghad is 12 years old. Thanks to the Royal Hashemite Court, they had a cochlear implant 10 years ago, a surgery in which an electronic device is implanted into the inner ear to aid hearing. Their father was able to place them in the Hearing and Speech Rehabilitation Center, but he could no longer cover the costs of the center. They still desperately need to continue at the center to acquire communication skills, and thus the ability to express their feelings and speak comfortably with the people around them. With your generous donations, we will be able to enroll sisters Mona and Raghad in the rehabilitation center for three months.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Mona and Raghad's father works as a driver, making barely enough money to cover the living expenses for him, his wife and two daughters, which include groceries, rent and bills. Unfortunately, his health insurance does not cover the cost of the external parts for the hearing device or the rehabilitation center for hearing and speech. With your support and donations, we will reduce the costs of the center for the father.

THE FAMILY HISTORY

Mona was her parents’ firstborn, and their pride and joy. Unfortunately, after she turned 2, her parents started noticing that she did not interact with any sounds around her, nor did she respond when her mother spoke to her. After getting an ultrasound and a hearing test, it was found that she had severe sensorineural hearing loss. At that time, her mother was pregnant with her younger sister Raghad, and after birth, the same examination was conducted for her and it was also found that she suffered from severe sensorineural hearing impairment as well, and from there the parents' suffering began in how to deal with their two daughters.

Their father did not take into account the costs after their cochlear implants, as they both required the purchase of parts for the external processor that would be installed on the internal cochlear implant (called a programmer or speech processor), where the first part is implanted during the operation and the second part is installed four weeks after. Moreover, they need to be enrolled in a special center for the rehabilitation of hearing and speech, in order to provide them with skills related to the verbal, auditory, perceptual, linguistic, and rhythmic aspects.
