Ola’s Paraplegia Has Left Her with Severe Complications and She Needs Your Help Now!
OLA’S STORY
Ola has been a paraplegic since she was born, so she has been suffering all her life. Her head is connected to a device that helps empty out extra fluid and she urinates involuntarily as she does not control the lower half of her body. She speaks but does not move; she has an old wheelchair with wheels that barely work, which makes the family carry her to take her to the hospital, where she goes often due to her epileptic seizures.
In addition to paraplegia, Ola has a congenital spinal deformity and curvature, which causes her to stretch in a way that causes severe skin ulcers.
Ola’s father is devastated over her condition and spends his days talking to her to try and ease her pain. Her mother died when she was young, and she now lives with her father and stepmother.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Ola is part of a family of 8 that has no stable income as her father is severely ill and cannot work. The family’s living conditions are truly awful; they receive some government aid which barely covers their basic needs as they are always late on rent and electricity and water bills. Ola’s father used to be a painter, but he is no longer able to move due to his several health issues, including diabetes, high cholesterol, poor vision and hearing, and a tumor on his foot.
Ola needs our help to receive better care and live the dignified life she deserves despite her condition. She needs a new wheelchair since her current one barely works, and she needs medical care and follow-up from the complications of paraplegia such as skin ulcers and seizures, from which she has suffered all her life.
