Help children with diabetes live their childhood without fear by providing them with a continuous glucose monitoring device
Age: Below 18 years old
Support provided: Providing FreeStyle Libre 2 a Continuous Glucose Monitor (GCM) for children
Campaign Description
Every day, many children living with Type 1 diabetes face the constant challenge of monitoring their blood sugar levels. Traditionally, patients use a device that requires pricking a finger with a needle and placing a drop of blood on a testing strip to measure glucose levels.
This method is especially difficult and insufficient for children, as they may need to check their sugar levels up to 15 times a day. It is often hard for both children and their parents to recognize the early signs of dangerous highs or lows, making timely treatment even more challenging.
Through this campaign, and in collaboration with Dr. Amir Al-Malkawi, consultant vascular surgeon, and Irada Association for Diabetic Children and Youth, we aim to support as many children as possible by providing them with insulin sensors on a regular basis, helping them live healthier and safer lives.
The glucose monitoring device we will provide measures blood sugar continuously through a small sensor placed under the skin, without the need for repeated finger pricks. This medical device is crucial, as it allows the child and their guardian to track glucose levels in real time through a mobile app, helping prevent dangerous drops or spikes that could lead to loss of consciousness or coma. It also offers children greater comfort, safety, and peace of mind in their daily lives.
However, the device is costly and each sensor lasts only two weeks, placing a financial burden on many families who struggle to afford it every month. Your donation today can give these children the chance to live their childhood safely, without fear of the complications of diabetes.
