AYA’S STORY
Aya was born into a family facing financial hardship and poverty. However, matters worsened when Aya, now aged 5, was diagnosed with comprehensive developmental delays encompassing cognition, speech, language, visual communication, and social interaction.
With each passing year, Aya grows older, but her cognitive age barely surpasses that of a one-and-a-half-year-old child. She urgently requires intensive individual sessions, averaging 24 sessions per month, with consistent parental attendance. Her condition is extremely challenging, and even her parents find it difficult to interact with her. Her sole means of expression is through crying.
It may seem unimaginable to encounter a child who doesn't recognize their own name when called, cannot distinguish between day and night, or discern gender differences. Due to her limited linguistic abilities, Aya faces profound difficulties understanding basic concepts. This situation presents a severe challenge, potentially leading her to long-term institutional care as she grows older and remains unaware of her actions.
According to the specialist at the Special Education Center, Aya requires an intensive year-long treatment plan. Goals will be divided into pre-language skills, visual communication skills, concentration skills, attention skills, and stability, aiming to help Aya reach a stage of comprehension when receiving information, along with behavioral modification efforts.
