HANI’S STORY

Hani, 50 years old, is no longer able to provide for his family of eight due to his health condition. He suffers from Gilbert's syndrome, a liver condition that affects his ability to process bilirubin properly, leading to liver and spleen enlargement. Hence, Hani cannot stand for long hours at work and consequently earns a modest monthly income.

Hani lives in a rented house consisting of two bedrooms, a living room, and a bathroom. During winter, rainwater leaks into one of the rooms, causing severe dampness that saturates the ceiling with water leading to its collapse.

Furthermore, all electrical wiring is external, posing a risk of electrical hazards during power outages, especially during winter, rendering the house unsafe for human habitation.

Hani has accumulated monthly rent installments totaling 2,000 JOD since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, he pays the monthly rent to the best of his financial ability, but there remains an outstanding amount.

After a supervisor assessed Hani's situation and inspected the house, an agreement was reached with the landlord for Tadamon to repair the essential aspects of the house. In return, the said expenses will be deducted from the accumulated rent owed by Hani, thus ensuring he continues residing in the house.
