Essa’s 10 hour operation was a success! He is currently under observation in the ICU until he’s moved into a normal room
Essa’s parents endured 10 hours of stress and anxiety while their son was in the operating room. They were patiently waiting for the doctor to come out and reassure them that everything was alright. The operation to rectify the lower area (Bladder Exstrophy and Epispadias) was thankfully a success.
During the operation, the pelvic bones on both sides were broken, and then the abdomen was incised to access the old mesh that had been implanted in previous operations. The mesh revealed inflammation and extensive adhesions; therefore the area was cleaned. The penis and urethra were then restored. Due to adhesions and infections, the doctor was unable to position the bladder in its designated location, resulting in its displacement. This was accomplished to the greatest extent possible, but not as the doctor had anticipated, but within the range permitted by his condition. The pelvic bones were then set and a cast was applied.
Essa is experiencing severe pain in the area of the operation, which is normal given that it is a major operation. God willing, his condition will improve after a few days. Essa is currently being observed in intensive care (ICU) for two days, after which he will be transferred to a regular room for a week, which may be extended based on his health condition.
You will be informed of any new developments regarding Essa.
